Oil Buying

Just received this message. If you buy oil for heating, this could be of interest.

As you will perhaps be aware from recent press coverage Rural Action Derbyshire has launched an oil buying scheme covering Derby and Derbyshire. This new venture is aimed at harnessing the buying power of users of domestic heating oil in order to get the best price for customers and to reduce the environmental impact of the delivery arrangements.

The Rural Action Derbyshire scheme is based on one that is already operated by our sister organisation in Oxfordshire and we will be using their oil buyer. Schemes are also being launched by out sister organisations is Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire. By pooling our orders we hope to achieve even greater savings for our members.

The scheme is open to individual householders, local businesses, community buildings, faith buildings and schools and other types of local authority premises. As trustees of community buildings, as is everyone else, you are constantly concerned about the ever increasing cost of heating oil and other utilities. This scheme aims to provide a collective oil buying consortium that will cater for the needs of local communities and provide the most competitive price at any particular time.

Many communities already operate a local scheme; if they want to join this scheme they would be most welcome (the main advantage would be the additional buying power and the fact that they would not have to negotiate the price themselves).

However, if your village or local community doesn’t operate a scheme, them perhaps the hall committee are well placed to help promote the idea to the wider community, e.g. word of mouth, information on notice board, inform user groups, newsletter, email, etc.

This is a great opportunity to help people and organisations save money and also reduce CO2 emissions by coordinating and rationalising oil delivery in rural areas. A win-win situation.

Website Launched for Chapel Vision

Following the meeting in the Village hall some time ago, Chapel Vision was launched.

Chapel Vision is a group of residents who want to involve as many of the local population as possible to plan and develop improvements for our area. We are supported by High Peak Borough Council and Chapel-en-le-Frith Parish Council but are independent. If you’d like to get involved, or have some suggestions, or just want to be kept informed, please let us know.

And now there’s a website to keep you updated on their activities at www.chapelvision.org.
